This spring, The Royal Ballet School brings its internationally recognised Inspire seminar series to London, Singapore and Helsinki, offering dance teachers a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge, refine their skills and reconnect with best teaching practice.

Designed to support the professional development of teachers from all backgrounds, Inspire comprises up to six one-day, non-syllabus-based seminars. This year’s programme explores the foundations of classical ballet, barre and centre work, allegro, pointe work, and principles of effective teaching practice.

Grounded in pedagogical, technical and artistic research, the seminars combine practical studio work with theoretical study, discussion and reflection. Participants are encouraged to consider how learning can be applied directly to their own teaching environments, whatever their context or level of experience.

“The six Inspire seminars can be attended individually or in a series,” explained a representative from The Royal Ballet. “Each one addresses a pedaogical aspect of good teaching practice and the practical application of a holistic approach to classical technique where the aim is to put the student at the centre of the learning process. They give a foundation and insight to the ethos and values of The Royal Ballet School’s training and to the other teacher training programmes (such as the Diploma and the Affiliate Programme) that the School runs.”

Harris Beattie, a Soloist with Northern Ballet, attended the seminars while still performing professionally.

“I always left feeling inspired and rejuvenated,” he says. “I was made to feel at ease in a supportive, safe, judgement-free learning environment – something I greatly appreciated being younger and more inexperienced compared to other teachers attending the Seminars. Courses like the Inspire Seminars provide a vital lifeline of accessible knowledge to [dancers like] myself, as well as seasoned teachers, academics within the dance sector and many more.”

No matter where you are in the world, you’re invited to connect with fellow passionate dance professionals to reflect on your practice, enhance your skills, and expand your knowledge of dance teaching.

“I really appreciate this opportunity to learn from other teachers from all over the world,” says Yukiko, a past participant. “I joined as an international participant, and I felt very comfortable being there. I will never forget this training, and I would love to come back for another seminar to study with The Royal Ballet School. This was the best training I have ever had!”
