bbodance is excited to share updates to its dance teaching courses, responding to the growing need for dance schools to offer diverse genres and work with multiple dance awarding organizations. To ensure ease of recognition and transferability of teaching qualifications, bbodance is introducing changes starting in 2026.

The Level 5 Diploma in Dance Teaching will be replaced by the new Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching Practice. This course will focus on developing practical skills and knowledge to prepare you for a successful career as a dance teacher in the private sector. It is not an “easier” version of the Level 5 Diploma but a reimagined program aligned with the industry’s common Level 4 qualification standard.

As a progression, bbodance will offer the Level 5 Licentiate in Dance Teaching, a genre-specific course centered on teaching bbodance syllabi. This qualification provides in-depth knowledge and a pathway to bbodance Examiner training. The Level 6 Diploma in Advanced Dance Teaching Practices will no longer be offered. Instead, its content will be adapted into CPD units for professional development, making advanced learning more accessible.

The final Level 5 Diploma in Dance Teaching will run from July 2025 to January 2026, and the final Level 6 Diploma in Advanced Dance Teaching Practices will be offered from October 2025 to June 2026. The new Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching Practice and Level 5 Licentiate courses will begin in 2026.

Your existing bbodance qualifications retain their full status and value. If you hold a Level 3 Certificate Dance Teaching Assistant, you can progress to the Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching, provided you meet the entry requirements. Those with a Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching or Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching can enroll in the final Level 5 Diploma or wait for the new Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching Practice.

If you have a Level 5 Diploma in Dance Teaching, you remain a recognized qualified teacher with unchanged Registered Teacher status. You can enroll in the final Level 6 Diploma, pursue CPD units, or opt for the Licentiate course to specialize in bbodance syllabi. Similarly, if you hold a Level 6 Diploma in Dance Teaching or Advanced Dance Teaching Practices, your qualified teacher status remains intact, and you can choose the Licentiate course for syllabus expertise. If you began your Level 6 course before 1 September 2024, you remain eligible to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status with the Society for Education and Training.

These changes ensure bbodance qualifications meet the needs of today’s dance teaching industry while supporting your professional growth.

The details of the new courses will be published on the bbodance website at https://www.bbo.dance/bboteach
