The world is once again coming to Rotterdam. The open call for the eighth edition of RIDCC received 400 applications from across the globe, with particularly strong growth from choreographers in Asia and South America. RIDCC is more than a competition; it’s a starting point for a new generation of makers. This year, alongside the theatre performances, the festival is bringing dance into the city streets with the public project De Anderen.

Interest in the competition remains strong, with 400 applications submitted for this edition. Behind that number lies a shift in geographical representation. While many entries traditionally come from the United States, Italy, and Spain, there is a clear rise in submissions from various countries across Asia and South America.

This development reflects RIDCC’s expanding international scope. It demonstrates how new generations of makers from diverse dance landscapes are increasingly finding their way to Rotterdam. For them, the competition offers a springboard, an opportunity to present their work to an international audience through the intimate and powerful format of the duet.

Alongside the competition, RIDCC moves into the public realm this year with De Anderen. Led by Polish choreographer Maciej Kuźmiński, a unique performance will take place on the streets of Rotterdam. A group of participants will form a living sculpture that momentarily slows the pace of the city, inviting passers-by to reflect on how we perceive “the other.” In collaboration with partners such as Dansateliers and Šeiko Dance Company, RIDCC will present this installation twenty times in public spaces at various moments throughout the year.

For De Anderen, RIDCC is seeking participants who would like to be part of this living sculpture. No stage experience is required; every background and every body contribute to the work. Those interested in exploring what it means to occupy space in the city in this way can register via ridcc.com.

Don’t miss this year’s RIDCC, taking place June 18–20, 2026. Mark your calendars for an inspiring showcase of global talent and innovative public dance!
