The second edition of the International Conference on Creativity in Dance (ICCD) will take place April 20-23, 2026 at the UNATC “I.L. Caragiale” Bucharest, reaffirming its position as one of the most relevant international platforms dedicated to artistic innovation and research in dance.
Curated by Simona Șomăcescu, project manager and visionary force behind the entire event, ICCD 2026 brings together leading figures whose work continues to shape the global dance landscape.
At the forefront of this year’s edition stands Andre Lepecki, Special Guest of ICCD 2026, Full Professor at the Department of Performance Studies, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, one of the world’s most influential intellectuals in performance studies. Renowned for his groundbreaking theoretical contributions that have redefined contemporary understandings of choreography, embodiment, and the politics of movement, Lepecki will deliver a major Conference keynote during the event.
Joining him is choreographer Sergiu Matis, notorious for his bold, experimental, and often provocative artistic language. Matis’s work, rooted in sharp physicality and visionary conceptual frameworks, has positioned him among Europe’s most compelling contemporary choreographic voices.
Famous photographer Camilla Greenwell, celebrated worldwide for her work with leading dance companies, will bring a distinctive visual approach to the event, offering an original perspective on dance that aligns seamlessly with the overarching theme of the conference.
A highlight of this edition is the participation of the University of the Arts Zurich – Dance (ZHdK). On the occasion of 115 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Romania, ZHdK will present a special performance created in collaboration with UNATC – Choreography students, underscoring ICCD’s dedication to international exchange, education, and the nurturing of new artistic generations.
Throughout its four-day program, ICCD will also host book launches, workshops, student performances, and exhibitions, offering rich opportunities for engagement and discovery. Esteemed guests from universities and cultural institutions both from Romania and abroad will join the event, fostering an inspiring space for cross-cultural dialogue and creative growth.
With its dynamic blend of scholarship, artistry, and international collaboration, the 2026 edition of the International Conference on Creativity in Dance promises to be a landmark gathering for the global dance community.
